This week at the Rathkeale and District Community Men’s Shed, we were delighted to welcome a representative from AIB for an informal talk on fraud prevention and keeping your finances safe.
With scams becoming more sophisticated, especially those targeting older people, it was a valuable chance to learn how to spot red flags and protect ourselves, our families, and even our neighbours.
Topics covered included:
- Spotting text message and phone scams
- How to know if an email is fake
- Why banks will never ask for your PIN
- What to do if you think you’ve been targeted
- Biometrics
- Scam AI Videos
The chat sparked plenty of conversation and even a few stories from the lads about suspicious calls they’d received. It was a great reminder that talking about these things helps keep everyone safer.
A big thanks to Helen and Seamus from AIB Rathkeale for taking the time to visit us, and for delivering the info in a friendly, down-to-earth way.
On a side note, well done Seamus for using a car battery to power the TV! That was something to see!
